Christian Lawyers invites you to their Christmas Lunch to be held at 1pm on Wednesday, 1 December at the Wellesley Hotel, 1 Maginnity Street, Wellington.
Our speaker will be Paul Fong, Director of Youth Quest, an organisation that works with youth at risk and recidivist offenders in the lower North Island. Paul will be speaking about his background and the work of Youth Quest.
Paul, a former South Auckland Police officer and diplomatic squad member, is passionate about giving young people the opportunity to reach their full potential in life and it seems to be working. Kapiti Police report that formerly “unapproachable” youths now wander into the Police station just to say “Hi”!
The cost is $25 (pay at the door) which includes a donation of $5 to Youth Quest. Please RSVP no later than midday Tuesday 30 November to info@christianlawyers.org.nz Students welcome.
Here are some things others have said about the work of Youth Quest:
“From my own perspective, sitting as a Judge in Porirua, I have observed the changes in the young offenders appearing before Court who have completed the Youth Quest programme. I am familiar with Youth Quest’s philosophy, ethos, and approach. I know that it works with a small group of very challenging young people, providing intensive outdoor challenges – (both physical, spiritual and mental, with an emphasis on team building and life skills programmes) – backed up by a long-term mentoring programme with the aim of integrating the young people back into the community and wherever possible providing full-time employment, vocational training or education. In this way, the work of Youth Quest is absolutely in line with internationally recognized best practice.”
AJ Becroft
Principal Youth Court Judge
“Boys that were once unapproachable are now walking into the Police at Kapiti, just to say “Hi, how are you” and to catch up in general. They are no longer committing crime and have successfully turned their lives around and put all of that behind them. This could only be achieved by the incredible mentorship that the Youth Quest mentors have provided to the youth and the respect that they have both received and given back to the Youth.”
